CSA (Computer Science and Automation) at the Indian Institute of Science is a lively and vibrant department with accomplished faculty and talented students. The Department is in a unique position to play a key role in enabling Bangaluru's and India's excellence in computer science. The department has produced outstanding leaders in CS academia and the IT industry. The driving mission for the department is to advance the frontiers of research in computer science and automation and offer world-class pedagogical and research experience to its students.

The department currently comprises 28 faculty members and 91 Ph.D. students. All our other degree programs are also research intensive. We have 35 M.Sc. (Engg) students, 111 M.E. (Computer Science and Engineering) students, 30 M.E. (Systems Science and Automation) students, and several technical staff, project staff, and office staff. Our research, which is organized into three clusters (theoretical computer science, Computer systems and software, and intelligent systems) spans core areas in computer science and several cutting-edge, CS-driven inter-disciplinary areas.
